Japanese restaurant and Sake bar
Kodo, the newest Japanese restaurant and Sake bar in the capital is located at shopping mall Модный сезон / Podium Market on the 4th floor.
This place just opend while the gastronomic festival, two weeks ago.
I had read only positive about the tasting menu and as a fan of Japanese cuisine, I was very excited if it can keep the standart thereafter…
(Both pictures of the tasting menu taken by Kodo while the gastronomic festival)
Moscow offers a lot low priced and cheerful sushi restaurants at shopping malls, so aims for something little more upmarket.
The brightly lit, spaciously and exotic green planting dining room has a polished, contemporary feel, attracting a more upscale clientele.
The menue features luxe ingredients too, such as wagyu beef, softshell crab roll (2000rub) or foie gras, all beautifully presented.
But it’s not all decadence here, there are also some standart options like the California roll for 900rub, tempura prawn roll 750rub or tuna tartar for 1200rub.
Compared to other sushi restaurants in the similar or same price range, prices at Kodo are set very high (in my opinion too expesive) and the rolls I had today are worthy of improvement!
A California roll for 900 rubles, I can expect the avocado to be soft and not rock hard!!
But maybe that’s only me being picky.
After all, the service was attentive and organised me a new roll.
The drinks majors on wines from the old world and new, as well a pretty serious sake selection.
Service at Kodo was impeccable, but I expect this with these prices.
In any opinion this is a venue more for business lunch or dinner and special occasions.
I will give this place definitely a second chance but I wouldn’t list it as my favorite Japanese restaurant in town as it’s still worthy of improvement.
